Deadline to Submit Documents: May 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time)

The New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE) is pleased to announce that it will accept Candidate Applications for the 2026 Board of Directors Elections from April 15, 2026, through May 15, 2026. Interested candidates must submit a completed nomination packet, along with a passport-sized photograph, to the Chairperson of the Nominations and Elections Committee via email at elections@nysabe.net.

There are three (3) Board of Directors positions open for election. Each selected candidate will serve a two-year term as an Officer‑Elect (2026–2028) and will then assume the officer role for an additional two-year term (2028–2030). Following this term, the President of the Association will continue to serve on the Board for an additional two years (2030–2032) as Past President, with full voice and voting privileges. All newly elected candidates are required to attend the swearing‑in and Board reorganization meeting, which will take place on September 19, 2026.

2026 Election Timeline: 

The Election will take place from June 1st through June 30th, 2026, and will be conducted by online voting via Simply Voting Inc., an independently managed online voting service that conducts national and international polling and voting activities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The election results will be announced and posted on the NYSABE website on August 1, 2026, and elected candidates will be notified of their election to the board by the Executive Director. Interested and qualified candidates in good standing (paid members) may download the candidate packet from www.nysabe.org/elections, complete, sign, and submit to the Nominations Committee Chairperson, Dr. Bernice Moro, via email at: elections@nysabe.net. All documents must be emailed and addressed to the Nominations and Elections Committee by the deadline.

NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES: Qualified candidates for the Board of Directors may be nominated for election by any member in good standing by completing the Nomination packet.

QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES: Candidates for the Board of Directors must be NYSABE members in good standing (paid members).

ELECTRONIC BALLOTS: The Nominations and Elections Committee shall be responsible for conducting elections for the Board of Directors and Delegate Assembly members through electronic ballots. Election ballots will permit members to vote for one candidate for the three Board of Directors positions, two regional Delegates from their specific region, and up to five language delegates.

SELECTION OF WINNERS: The positions of Board of Directors and Delegate Assembly members shall be filled by the candidates receiving the highest number of votes for the available positions, as counted by an impartial election management company that is independent of the Board of Directors.
